Help me connect my HDTV to my 5770!

Thread Starter
Alrighty, so I have an HD5770 that has 2xDVI, 1xHDMI, and 1xDisplay Port.

I have 2 monitors connected via DVI, and now I have a cable running from the HDMI out to my HDTV. When I try to extend my desktop, it says unable to apply settings.

Is it possible to use the HDTV as a third display?

Also, when the TV is plugged in, it says it's display #1.

So far in CCC it looks like I can't be using both monitors + the tv. I have to disable one in order to extend it to the TV. frown.gif

I suggest you to try using the Display Port output of your HD5770 as one of the 3 outputs.

Suggested connections:
1st: Card's DP (via an active single link DP-to-DVI adapter cable. See below link for an example) to a DVI input of Monitor 1.
2nd: Card's DVI output to a DVI input of Monitor 2.
3rd: Card's HDMI output to HDMI input of HDTV.

Active Single link DP-to-DVI adapter cable:

I have no problem just connecting my 5770 straight to my 32" Vizio. Works flawlessly. No extras needed.

Just drag + drop movie onto TV. Viola. HD Movies!

Thanks for the advice, will this work? It'll save some cash. Lol

@wulf: do you have two monitors plus your tv? That's the issue I'm having. If I disconnect one, the tv turns on.

^You need an active displayport adapter. In order to get three monitors to work on the 5770 one of them needs to be connected to the DP.

^this.
The description of that adapter says it is passive and so it will not work. You need an active one.

As an alternative to my suggestion above, below is my own connection of my 5770 to three TVs:
1) Card's DVI output (via a DVI-to-HDMI cable) to HDMI input of TV1
2) Card's DVI output (via a DVI-to-HDMI cable) to HDMI input of TV2
3) Card's DP output (via a Sapphire active single-link DP-to-HDMI adapter cable) to HDMI input of TV3
