Performance problem with my i7 2600k?

Thread Starter
Hey,

I'm new to building PC's so these question may appear stupid

I recently got an i7 2600k and I had to reset it once already because of problems with paste.

I reapplied the paste yesterday and a neat X shape.

My idle temp is around 24 and 35 on load and one core shoots to 42+

Is this normal?

Secondly my perforce seems to be really bad.

These are my 3D mark results: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1099949

My physics score is terrible compared to others with the same setup.

I have :

i7 2600k - not OC yet
Geforce GTX 560 TI
Corsair H70
Corsair HX650

Any advice?

Thanks

I would just do a grain size dot. But your temp looks fine though. It's normal to have one core warmer than the other, also don't worry too much about benchmark scores. Try to play a game and see how it performs.

Hey,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I emailed artic silver and the suggested a straight line or a X.

I am concerned about the physics benchmark as it is CPU intensive and I'm worried I may have damaged the CPU when removing the old thermal paste off. I was very careful with the TIM remover but I did have to clean the sides and the socket itself.

I will try some games when I get back.

you are in the biggest pool of samples, and you haven't overclocked it at all

Your score and temps are perfectly fine

No overclock yet. Will probably hit 10k with a nice 5 GHz OC.

Maybe I'm being overly paranoid..

I guess for me as a novice it has been a big and scary/exciting investment and I don't want to mess it up from being incompetent.

I guess I was just worried that the physics score is low compared to other people with exact same setup, or at least same clock speed.

Once again thank you for the replies!

One more thing, I managed to dent the green plastic on the sides when setting it.

I didn't realise you had to slide the socket lock forward before locking.

That wouldn't have any long term effects?

Thank you for your patients!

It's quite normal to get different core temps. I have tried to RMA a chip before becuase of a stuck temp sensor. I got knocked back.
