I'm not sure what Intel's EE CPUs have to do with Bulldozer, I must say.

OT: Would be nice for BD to compete, but if it doesn't, I'm not going to cry over it.
No, but recently, Intel have been elevating their >mid-range CPUs to 1,000$.

It used to be that the 1,000$ CPUs were useless unless you wanted to run LN2, like with the X6800.

But now, with the 980x when the 970 didn't even exist.. it's just extortion.

Never going to happen (Intel not selling $1k CPU). When Athlon FX was king and selling for $1k, Intel Pentium Extreme Editions were going for $1.5k. If AMD does come out with a CPU that beats Intel's highest end, all that will do is force Intel to innovate some more. Intel's very fond of their high mark-ups. The whole Tick-Tock thing came as a result of Networst's defeat in the hands of the Athlon.

The Phenom II architecture is based off of the Athlon 64 architecture with major improvements. The Athlon 64 architecture was created in 2003 so it's a 8 year old architecture.

Llano will still be based off of the Phenom II architecture with some improvements along with an integrated GPU.

Why would AMD base their K10 architecture off of K7 instead of K8?

You should make a poll ...
I for one wouldn't care. Its gonna be a long time till I get the dough for a mobo+cpu+ram upgrade.

If Bulldozer is a let down, no biggie, just get a SB setup instead. Not that it wouldn't be disappointing, I'm holding out for when bulldozer releases to see some good benchmarks and judge from there. I'd probably take it much harder if I bought a Sandy Bridge setup now, so close to the release of Bulldozer, and come to find that Bulldozer is better for the same or even less money.

But they haven't. The 2600k for instance. 330 dollars. The 2500k, 230 dollars. I'm not sure where anyone gets that "Intel CPU = $1,000." It's incorrect.

The 970 was not the typical "slightly above mid range" CPU.

I don't think any of these prices are going to change regardless of Bulldozer's success or failure.
