The real question is why would AMD commit suicide and drop x86?
Because it worked so well for Intel.

ARM is a godsend for embedded systems. With windows being able to fully support the ARM architecture, which really is just an extended RISC architecture I think we'll see more embedded windows applications. Also to whoever said RISC will never reach the same potential as X86/CISC you are so wrong.. CISC is a multiple cycle instruction set. RISC is a single cycle instruction set. The Intel architecture breaks up a CISC instruction to multiple RISC like instructions for efficient pipelining and out of order execution. Seems to work pretty damn well to me.

you didnt respond to me on how arm could acquire amd ....

how much money is arm worth??

and how much money is amd worth??

Hmm... maybe for low profile, in the Bobcat, homeserver, and HTPC range, but anything higher as of now, I don't know if ARM can compete.

His point was Intel wanted to dump x86 too. They wanted everyone to switch to Itanium 64 CPUs, which ran a different instruction set. It did not work out for Intel. Even Microsoft does not support Itanium 64 CPUs anymore.

if AMD give up on x86...the price of an i7 2600K will definitely be around $800, the 2500K$500, and whichever the next top dog extreme cpu is will be over $1600

Why make that statement? There's a lot of face to be lost. Once touted by Intel as a replacement for the x86 product line, expectations for Itanium have been throttled well back. All the same, it's a flagship product, and it would cost Intel more than money to chop the programme now -- especially when it appears to be making ground, albeit very slowly.
http://features.techworld.com/operat...n-the-itanium/

They were supposed to be used in servers, workstations, and HPC. However, its performance per watt and x86 emulation was beyond appalling.

Microsoft, Red Hat, and Oracle no longer support Itanium. There is no point for Itanium anymore. The high end Intel Xeons got much more traction.

The ARM7 CPU are about 80,000 transistors and Sandy bridge CPU are 995 M transistors, so the 4 CPU's will have to compete will some ting like 10,000 CPU's!!! I do not know how powerfully a ARM7 CPU is through. But we do not need that much faster computers for most task's, so we will choose the power saving and lower price in stead.

x86 is an old inefficient architecture. It should die.
