Time for an upgrade

Thread Starter
The MB on my current system is severely acting up so decided to do a major upgrade

Looking at getting
MB: ASRock P67 Extreme4

GPU: MSI N460GTX Hawk Talon

CPU i5-2500K

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB

Waterblock: Swiftech Apogee-XT

Total cost ~760

OS, HDD, case and powersupply are already taken care of.

This will be used for two main purposes:
Gaming
Work (running SQL Server 2008)

This upgrade look good? Any suggestions, budget is $800 max

Would going with an i7 be worth the extra 80-90?

Looks good. Definitely not worth going to i7 unless your going to be doing hardcore video editing.

Would suggest paying the little extra to go with a Asus P8P67 Pro, from memory i think it has more power phases than the extreme4 and doesn't cost much more.

That graphics card looks very expensive, since you're willing to pay that amount of $$$ you could be getting a 6870 or if you have some 30$ more you could get a 6950 1GB, both would be upgrades over the 460 GTX. The 80-90$ are some 10% of your overall budget and I think it could be worth it if you intend to keep this build for a while.

*Edit: I almost forgot, the Z68 chipset should launch in 1-2 weeks and this means: a) New king of the hill, will allow for example the use of quick sync & discrete GPU and some form of hybrid SSD/HDD storage; b) P67 mobos should come down in price. /food for thought

Thanks for the suggestions, I won't be ordering for a few more weeks so hopefully the Z68 will come out and P67 will drop in price by then.
