Arriving in two capacities, the drives combine SandForce's SF-2200 controller with "premium" MLC NAND flash components to produce a 4KB random write performance of up to 75,000 IOPS.

Newegg is currently selling the 120 GB model for $319.99 here. The 240 GB model couldn't be located, but it's likely to cost around $569.99 based on the price of the original 240 GB Vertex 3 SSD.

I would be upset if I just bought a Vertex 3.

If they make a 60GB version i'm sold.

So the Vertex 3 now has very high sequential speeds and very high random speeds?

I haven't followed the new SSD's much, but it sounds like this new Vertex 3 is really bringing its A game.

I'll wait for the real-world tests to see how much of a performance increase this "MAXIO" will really provide.

This.

I only use my SSD as a boot drive, and for applications, so I don't need to pay a lot of money for extra memory I'm not going to use.

They NEED smaller capacities. They'll get a lot of sales too.

I mentioned this yesterday and today it became reality. The drive may actually be same/slower in some scenarios than the regular vertex 3.I was involved in a big discussion yesterday over at the ocz forums and ryder was hinting a bit about the performance. It will cost more and this is ocz's answer to the c300.

I thought I remember reading that the speeds of SSD's are related to their size. Like if a drive is small, it can't achieve the same read and write speeds. I always assumed it was to get you to pay more money and buy the bigger drive and get the better speed. But I thought somewhere I read that this is just part of the physics of SSD technology right now. If they made a 60gb it would probably be good, just not as good.

Anyone with thoughts or info, please feel free to let me know. All this SSD stuff still has be baffled from time to time, ha!

So...
The Vertex 3 should be Agility 3.
The Vertex 3 Max IOPs should just be the Vertex 3.
Once again...

You're not going to get the same speed with a smaller drive. You get what you pay for.

Close enough... SandForce controllers are not impacted as badly as the Marvell controller.
