[Toms] OCZ Adds IOPS Edition to Vertex 3 SSD Line - Page 3

I plan to get one whenever I upgrade my motherboard.. which will likely be when I upgrade everything.

Current comp is instant and can run everything on max, so I see no reason to upgrade soon. Consoles holding us back.

I think the people who recently bought the standard Vertex 3 should not groan over this, having really high IOs is normally only beneficial in server type scenarios.

Already got one incoming. Can't wait to test this beauty. However, i'm very interested in knowing a little more about the NAND flash it uses, the Toshiba's 3x nm NAND. Could somebody enlighten me in this matter? Any pros/cons between this and the original Vertex 3's 25nm NAND Flash?

You sure?

Is there going to be a huge speed difference?

i'm still going for the normal version of vertex 3. I don't think the extra premium is worth it

Just be warned: OCZ always inflates their numbers as high as possible, and they always cut corners with the material inside of the drive.

They claim a deflated failure rate. Did you know that on their forum one of their reps admitted that 90% of their RMA cases are due to the SSD going into "panic lock". The panic lock is described as something that causes the SSD to be entirely unusable and requiring RMA, but they qualify the SSD as "not broken". As such, they do not attribute panic lock RMA's to their claimed failure rates. So, for example, the OCZ Vertex 2 has a claimed failure rate of 1% currently. That number is actually 10%, if you consider all the "panic lock" RMA's which they do not count as "failure". And I bet the number (1%) is already deflated in other ways. You're looking at a HUGE failure rate requiring RMA's, if you consider panic lock to be failure (which it truly is, since you cannot access your drive until it is sent into OCZ and replaced with a new one).

I was going to buy one, but I'll live with my 3 Raptors for now. Until the prices at retailers become the originally-advertised MSRP, I'm not going to bite. It's like price gouging.
