CPU less efficient when overclocked to 3.9GHz

Thread Starter
I got my processor to 3.9GHz and noticed it's not efficient as I was expecting.
Programs and folders took at least 3 seconds to open.

How long programs take to open is decided mostly by the speed of your hard drive, not the cpu.

you probably messed up with some settings, or your system is unstable at certain frequencies. How did you overclock your cpu? At what frequency are HT and ram?

Most programs and folders open virtually instantaneously when I'm at 3.75GHz.

If that's more than regular load times (which I assume it is) it's unstable.

If it's the normal load time your problem should be in your HDD.

HT: 260
RAM: 4.xx (I forget what the frequency was but it's less than 1333mhz)
I had the timing on auto.

"Overclock" and "auto" shouldn't be allowed in the same sentence

I think I know what the problem was. I left my HT Link on Auto thinking it would automatically pick the closest number to 2000mhz.
I'm currently running at 3.97GHz and I don't have any lag when opening files or performing tasks.
