[Ubuntu] Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal released

Thread Starter
Canonical releases Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal"
Natty Narwhal includes the latest Firefox 4.0 web browser, version 2.0 of the Banshee media player and LibreOffice 3.3.2 as the default office suite. Other package updates include X.org 1.10.0 and Mesa 7.10.1, version 0.9.2 of the Shotwell photo manager and version 2.13 of the BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing client. The Upstart event-based init replacement has been updated to version 0.9.7-1, which includes several new features over the previous version, such as support for chroot.
Users currently running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or 10.10 on a desktop system can upgrade by pressing Alt+F2 and typing "update-manager -d" (without the quotes) into the command box. Users running versions of Ubuntu that are earlier than 10.04 LTS will need to upgrade to 10.04 LTS first. The next major release following Ubuntu 11.04 will be 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", scheduled to arrive in October 2011.

Hmmm, not too sure if I'll be upgrading. You now have to pay to get CDs? What has happened to Canonical? I think it'll be Arch for me from now on.

They sent them for free for exposure. They don't need it anymore.

I'd still be on 9.* if I didn't have to replace my HDD in my laptop. I haven't seen a reason to upgrade in a long time. I mean, on a new install, sure.

The main fork of Ubuntu isn't something I care for. Kubuntu and the other variants are were the goods are at. I'm just not sure whether it's worth me moving onto 11.04 yet.

Interesting. Now I hope that Linux Mint comes out with a new released based on this.

Uh. As far as I remember. They always charged a few $$ for the CD's. Linux is free, but to put them on CD's isn't. But who cares, just download the ISO and burn it to a USB or a CD yourself. Quit complaining.

Same. I personally like 9.04. Before they started doing all the funky ish with the interface.

Upgrading now. I used to use kubuntu / fluxbox, but for the past while now, I've been using the original ubuntu, we'll see how this release is, been really liking the default gnome, hopefully I'll like unity.
