What I think is funny how a lot of you say how tragic it is but still want products as cheap as possible. You want the layoffs to stop? Change the economic model.

Welcome to the future of manufacturing. Most people who have a job right now have it because their job hasn't been automated yet, even stock markets are getting automated.

As long a profit and greed exist people will continue to get laid off, it is simply inevitable, for it is automated manufacturing that allows mass amounts of products to be produced at a fraction of the cost.

The best thing I have seen are the automated help desks that can identify and solve people's problems. This is also being used in quite a few chat channels (mainly X-rated websites and times the so called 'security apparatus' needs to take over I think) where the software can actually have a good conversation with someone for hours, without the person ever realising he's taking to a machine. Once this software has become very sophisticated you can say bye to hundreds of thousands of help desk and call centre jobs.

This is the time of the machine, embrace it and cast aside the concept of money.

All these layoffs, yet higher-ups will still walk off the lot with a brand new $100k+ car every year like it's pocket change.

Machines will only replace humans at mindless repetitive tasks. I love how you shun when a machine wipes grease on a piston, yet love how machines are taking over something more complex like holding a conversation. Idk about you but I prefer negotiating with a human, not a machine.

Profit and Greed aren't the reasons why machines are taking over, it's the natural evolution of technology. People need to make themselves useful now, instead of counting on mindless jobs that require no brain power. I think this is good overall for the human race because it forces people to actually learn something.

If you really want to give people their jobs back, we can all do our part and buy a panasonic TV. I already did last year, but I'm back in the market in the coming few months, I'll get a Panasonic then.
