I echo what others have said, there's no reason for an upgrade unless you purely like to buy new parts for a hobby; it's a waste of money.

That being said, if I had to chose, I'd definitely go with a 2600k over a 970 if I were to be building a rig.

What do you mean? No one but you mentioned the 980X. The extra PPD is woth the 280$ difference if you want to fold when your not gaming. Look at his rig and the question he posed; getting off for 280$ with a hex core that will show him a noticeable gain in one of the criteria he listed is worth it.

Alternatively he could drop 320$ on a 2600k plus another few hundred on a mobo for a few more FPS and milisecond increases across the board. (ok ok maybe not that little but having played on both I notice a SSD long before a SB vs 960).

Upgrading his sig rig to anything at this point is a waste of money. He needs to wait until the end of the year with Ivy/Bulldozer. Unless he's loaded that is.

Plain and simple, the 2600k > 970/980x/990x, so if you're really just itching for an upgrade, and don't care that you are wasting money, the 2600k is the way to go.

Never mind.

Totally agree with everyone else, you rig is pretty much upgraded to the max unless you absolutely need the 2 extra cores.

And the rest of your system is awesome as well, the only other thing would be to go watercooling. thats the only other thing I can think of as an upgrade, and if you like tinkering around with stuff, watercooling might be something to look into. Or having multiple monitors.

I'm coming away from water-cooling.

I sold my last water cooled system a couple weeks ago. Q9550 + GTX295 in an ABS 595... damn she was a beaut...

I got a deal on a M4E... so I bought a 2600K and some memory to go with it lol.

Look for my current CPU/MB/Memory on the FS section in the next couple weeks.
