3DTV Play Mini Review

Thread Starter
Just to get you guys up to speed (in case you don't already know) 3DTV Play is Nvidia software (its only software) that enables your PC to play 3D games on a conventional 3D TV (obviously the PC has to have an Nvidia gpu).

-Install the software
-Connect PC to 3D HDTV via HDMI
-Use the TV's glasses to play in 3D (no need for Nvidia glasses or transmitter)

Anyways, 3DTV Play has 14 day free demo (tiny download no even 10mb I think) so I tried it out this morning with my laptop and 3D Plasma TV.

Keep in mind, my laptop has a really, really sh**ty gpu.....its a Geforce 210m. Given that, the whole thing worked pretty well. Set up was super simple.

3D looked great on my 42" Panasonic 3D Plasma. Only tried 2 games, Battlefield 2 and NFS Carbon, both at 720p. As far as 3D-ness goes, the 3D effect was about the same as with the Nvidia 3D Vision kit but much bigger screen size, less ghosting (due to it being a Plasma TV) but at a lower resolution. The lower resolution wasn't a big deal to me though.

I'm very impressed with 3DTV Play....so much so that I will probably build myself a cheap (under $300) desktop just for 3DTV Play (still have some left over desktop parts, so I can swing it).

NOTE: 3DTV Play can also be done at 1080p but due to hdmi limitations its limited to 24hz; at 1080p, games can play at over 24fps (have to turn off v-sync) but there will be massive screen tearing. See here for more.
