Antec Earthwatts 430w running HD5850 - Page 2

I will agree that your system should only pull about 300w on full load. I will slightly alter what I said earlier and state that you will be OK with the Earthwatts 430. But me personally, would still go with a 500w unit just to have some headroom. It's only $5-7 more for the 500w unit. I think that is a fair price to pay for some insurance.

Perfectly safe. HD5850 uses about the same power as the HD4870, and I ran an earlier iteration of my system with one 4870 on the EA430, no problema.

Thanks for the help everyone, Starting my build tommorrow and you all have definitly put my mind more at ease. In the future I will definitly consider a bigger PSU, but I think for the time being and with the budget in mind I will probably keep this one for now. I'll definitly let you all know how it worked out!

The system will uses less than 300w.

Efficiency has to do with the AC input vs DC output. The DC output is the same regardless of efficiency.

It would likely be more efficient if he ran this unit along with those parts as opposed to using a 500-600w unit for some kind of false sense of security/perception.

Just wanted to update everyone, the build went GREAT! Everything is working very well together, and didn't hit any hiccups. Thanks again for the help

bunch of idiots.

gtx580 in sli on i7 2600k with 1250w ocz 80+ gold in reality only pushes not even 300w out the wall on load.

it would be even less with a less overkill psu bc overkill psu actually increases wattage out the wall

and this is antec we're talking about, not some generic psu.
