which is why i don't like the word "greed". it's used in the wrong way all to often. he's making as much money as he can for his company. that's not greedy, that's smart. what, is he just supposed to stop being successful so he can mesh with your ethics?

i just don't see anything wrong with trying to make as much money as you can, especially when it's hurting no one.

I love how this thread has gotten off topic.

OT: I'm totally not surprised with how this was handled. For a big company, it's probably easier to just automate everything. Sometimes that means mistakes.

We've come so far and yet regressed somewhat also... I had the same thing happen to my old tech web page back in the day, hell it was tripod but I had put a significant amount of work into it, when I contacted them about it they wouldn't/couldn't discuss what had gone wrong citing my need to "backup content" to prevent data loss and something about potential copyright infringement...

I never bothered again

So you'd prefer to use a euphemism so that it doesn't sound bad. Fair enough. I suppose you don't consider Steve Jobs to be a control freak bent on convincing the masses that what they want is what he wants either. No, he's "smart".

i just don't see anything wrong with trying to make as much money as you can, especially when it's hurting no one.
If you go to an all you can eat buffet, would you ask to take home all of the food in the kitchen? Same concept, but with money instead of food. Also yes, he IS hurting people, by taking more of their money than he deserves. I think this system and our culture teach people to take everything they can, and not what they need. Also I understand why he doesn't just stop making money (Sadly I'd do the same thing).

I'm not saying the rich should just all of a sudden stop charging for things, but why not lower prices? For example, why doesn't he do something like 50% off for all advertisers next month? Or donate just more money?

Greed was a survival instinct, and it's an instinct we don't need anymore. So why embrace something we've evolved out of?

Edit: Ethics debates ftw!

steve jobs is a genius in convincing people to buy his overpriced, outdated technology. i think it's completely ok to convince people to buy your products so that you make a profit from them, that's how business works.

are you kidding me? he's making money off of advertisers who are in turn making money off of the ads. that's how business works.

what i'm trying to say people, is "don't hate the player, hate the game."

Are you freaking kidding me You want him to stop doing his job because it's not nice

The whole idea if selling something to people is by manipulating them to want to buy it. People buying apple products can afford them and they enjoy them. So what if he's making a huge margin of profit That's the point.

If you believe manipulating people for your own personal gain is morally acceptable, that's your opinion.

i'm not stating that it's morally acceptable, i'm just stating that it's good business and like it or not, these men are doing their jobs very well.
