[Updated]Motherboard issue? PC starts then resets after a few seconds

Thread Starter
The PC will start up then after a few seconds it will shut down then restart and boot up fine. No error messages. This seems to of started after went into the BIOS and selected it to run in performance mode which Overclocks the PC automatically. I put it back into normal mode after I saw the DRAM voltage was 1.65 which is too high from what I read.

After it boots it seems fine and runs fine. I checked CPU temps with Core temps program and then looking agian in the BIOS. What is weird is that if I shut it down after using it for a bit, then start it back up it wont do that stop and start again. ASUS said that the Temp in the BIOS will always read higher than in ASUS suite software or another program as a safety measure I guess. The CPU will read 42-44 in the BIOS and 32-34 in Core temps or Asus suite 2 software. This is a 3 week old computer and the only thing I have done with it is game and surf only safe sites. I do routing scans with MSE and Malwarebytes. No porn on this baby! That is reserved for the PS3

I ordered a new PSU because mine is not a great one I found out, and I switched the RAM to different slots.

Any ideas? I was told I could take out the small battery on the mobo and reset it that way to see if it fixes it.

I am not real savvy with this so any explanation will have to simple and spelled out for me(like a 5 year old).

Unplug your PSU them pull out the tiny looking watch battery, this will reset all setting in bios to default state.

Heres an article on how to change the battery.

It shows in the pictures what it looks like.

Have you checked to see if the primary boot device may have been changed in the BIOS?

I don't know if this would cause rebooting, but it may definitely cause failure to boot, so I wonder if perhaps it is causing yours to reboot.

I will for sure. I have read this can happen after failed overclocks or just from overclocks in general. Maybe this is what happened.

Well it was happening to me before I even overclocked my CPU, so I think it might be related to something else. Plus, it only happens about 75% of the time for me, so I'm clueless as to what is causing it.

I posted this earlier try this and see if it helps.

My friend had a similar problem when I built his PC.

Check the power connection on your motherboard and make sure that + and - are in the right slots. After trying this on my friends board it worked fine.

He was having the same issue with the usb bug. He'd plug in a usb wire and the screen would turn black and stop working.

In the end I just left only his power_sw wire connected because something was going on with his reset_sw wire.

Just leaving the power_sw wire plugged in seemed to work fine no more reset when plugging in his usb devices.

Try that and see if that helps best of luck to you.
It also resets your computer if you the + and - mixed up. If you look on the back of the power_sw wire you'll see a G and an arrow pointing down of course the G stands for ground.
