Dunno if this is the right forum...

Hey guys, I need some help. I'm putting a build together for a friend, and I'm having some troubles. There's no wailing coming from the mobo.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=11516169

These are the components I'm using. Is the PSU not strong enough to support all of the parts? Is it good enough and I just missed a power cable somewhere?

If it helps, all of the fans come on and work well.

Looks good to me, the 520w you have there would run any single GPU you care to mention.
A decent build there.

That PSU is fine for that build. What happens when you turn the computer on? Everything spins up but no post? Do you get any video feed at all?

PSU should be more then fine

Maybe you forgot a plug ?

the 8-pin plug near the cpu gets forgotten alot of times, check it.

Check if your RAM is seated proper and firm.

Check all other cables.

Everything looks good, I would reseat (ram, gpu) and check the cables. just go through and make sure. If it checks out then you may have a DOA piece of hardware you'll have to test for, Usually it's the mobo.

By the way, this is the correct section

A friend says, "According to Gigabyte, you will require a BIOS update in order to use that chip. I'm guessing this is the problem. This means you'd need another AM3 chip to flash it with. So... either exchange the motherboard or CPU to get a compatible combination, or find someone with a socket AM3 chip that you can borrow to flash the mobo to BIOS F13.
In summary, GAH! "

He also gives this link.

What would be the suggestion here?

My suggestion? Flash the BIOS. People are cautious with doing it, but I've done it a half dozen times and never messed up. It's an easy process that takes 10-15 minutes to do.

How would I do that? :/ I'm new to configuring/setting up new hardware. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you can get a chip to boot with and get inside a OS it's pretty easy. Just download the flashing utility and your motherboards bio's update, use the program, restart and your ready.

If your board support's it you can flash outside a OS so all you would need is a USB stick with the update. It's called Qflash, should be in your bio's somewhere.

Would any chip work?
