OC Q6600 first timer

Hi Guys,

I think I have this in the right section?

Anyway, I have my Q6600 sitting a rather decent Asus P5K.

I have my CPU OC to 3.01GHz with a voltage of 1.36 is this safe. the maximum my board voltage goes up to is 1.7. Just wondering what would be a safe voltage. I also have my northbridge at 1.40 volts and my RAM at 1.80 also sitting at 850mhz. It seems stable at the moment, no problems with windows.

I just want to know what you guys think.

Is this OK i know this chip goes really far, i just want to make sure its all dandy becuase i dont want to fry it!

Thanks!

Awesome! So maybe I can push it a little further? i mean what does the front side strap do? exactly? Also it gives me the option to adjust the CPU to FSB ratio - the options 06.00 up to 09.00 well on similar lines.

I would leave the ratio @ X9, the strap will change your ram speed. 1.5v is about the max you want to use with a Q6600. My Q6600 has been @ 1.4v-3.6 for over 3 years and still going strong.

Make sure you do a run of Prime95 or similar to ensure stability before sticking at a level. I've got mine to 3.1GHz, but it should go higher. When you get past ~3.3-4 for this chip (I think), be careful with temps and voltages. Mine is running at 1.3-1.31 volts at 100%, if that's helpful.

Leave your FSB Multiplier at X9 because it will give you the best speeds
Run your RAM as fast as you can with reasonable voltage.

1.55V is the max you want to use (its even said so by Intel)
I ran my Q6600 B3 (old revision) at 3.5GHZ at 1.54V with a 62C Load temp on my H50...

In my opinion... lets face it.. the old quads are beasts... they will take a beating...
I took my Q6600 up to 1.6V for 3.8GHZ with a 74C Load temp on my H50

GETTING BACK TO THE POINT...
If your overclock fails and voltage isn't helping... pump up your northbridge and CPU VTT voltage

Just running prime95 and core 1, 2 and 4 seem to be fine. core 3 however doesnt.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less then 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult tress.txt file.

How can one core have an error?

Sorry for the late reply, I got sleepy.
