@MSIalex
If you are still reading this, do you have a comment on this apparent conflict with the advertising?
Some reviews I read that covered the gtx580 and 6970 lightning showed the memory voltage slider for the 580 but not for the 6970 in the screenshots. They mention tuning everything, but maybe the voltage isn't in afterburner for the 6970 yet.

I have been using 2.1. I am downloading beta 2.2. The release notes do not indicate any core changes. All reviews of the Lightning used 2.1.

Should I unistall AMD CC ? Does it create a conflict ?

I installed 2.2 beta and have the same issues.

Please note. After crashing/lock up, I have restarted my pc and played Badco with stock setings and had this lock up. On stock...

960/1385, 1174v, stable, all testing programs and unlimited play in BadCo 2

Using AB 2.1, results:

Stock voltage,(1174) stock settings 940/1375

965/1400 Kombuster ok, crashed Unigine

970/1385 Crashed BadCo2, 13 minutes

970/1400 Crashed badCo2 20 minutes

980/1410 15 minutes Kombuster, passed Kom benchmark, Crashed BadCo2 29 minutes.

990/1420, Crash

990/1420 w/ 1180V kombuster ok, crashed Unigine.

1050/1502 w/ 1184V crashed on 3/26 Unigine.

I have tried these settings using both positions on the card that have preloaded bios. Same results.

If this card is basically a O/C'ed version of the 6970 with a sweet effective cooler, great. But the way this card was built with the oversized pcb, more power phases then my MB, dedicated power management, and advertised Overclock ability... Thats not what I have.

Is there a reason you aren't giving it more voltage? I would think you would need 1.25v at least to get something like 1050mhz. As for the voltage sliders, I have no idea. Did you try setting all the AB settings to default or enable unofficial overclocking?

Maybe all the power phases on this card are hungry. Have you adjusted powertune? However, I can't believe you crashed on stock. You know, someone with the 6950 version twinfrozr iii had similar issues. He had two of them. I'll see if I can find it.

From the anyone unlock a twinfrozr iii thread:

in theory yes, In practice, unfortunately, not. Lik said: OC is also weak, only 910MHz on the default (1 on max (1.35v) 1030MHz in benchmarks but in only 960MHz (1.275v) is stable.Model of my frie even weaker (only 880MHz stable on default

let me explain: 1.1040mhz stable (no crash or artifacts) in benchmarks (<1.35v>, 3dmark2006, vantage, 3dmark11), beautiful result at 3dmark 2011 almost 6200 (with i5 760 4.4GHz and catalyst 11.4) 2.games -960mhz (1.25v -1.3v) randomly freezes in shift 2, crysis 2, BBC2 (multi). 3.games -900mhz, default voltage (1.15v) randomly freezes in games > 932mhz (1.15v/default) crash in 3dmark2006 (forest fly) > 942mhz (1.15v/default) crash in 3dmark2011 (first test) 4.games -850mhz (default), voltage 1.15v (default) -no problem (so I think that the software (windows, drivers) is not a problem). 5.no chance for 6970 mod <unlock shaders> (after many hours trying) 6.tests with different settings power tune (0%-20%). maybe my card is weak, maybe my bad luck, i don't know. This card is cool (even at 1.3v) and quiet but the OC is a nightmare. When I think too I have a stable 960mhz -crash. Card goes on sale, I have no patience for it.

Powertune has been used. I set it to +5 on various tests. If you get a screen freeze, Image locks on screen as opposed to vertical bars or black screen, what does that indicate?

From all the overclock methods I've read you slide the core and the memory bars as far as you can before crashing then you back it off 10 megahertz. Then you start adding voltage. Different reviews I've read I've tried to match their settings and when that failed I back them down still with failure.

Most of the lockups I had with my old card were screen freezes. I've only had a couple lockups with the lightning, but they weren't freezes. Are you still locking bc2 at stock. Do you think you've locked it enough to hose catalyst, bc2, or windows? Have you reinstalled ccc?

I didn't have time to test yesterday, but the day before I ran kombustor extreme burn in with open gl2 for several minutes at 980/1375 at stock voltage. There were no artifacts, but it didn't seem totally smooth and I think I saw a white flash or two. However, I'll bet a game locks it.
