Help reaching 4ghz

Thread Starter
Hey I've been lurking around for a few months but this is my first post. I've been looking for safe 24/7 overclock for my 955. I've been able to get to 3.8 with the multiplier at 19 and 1.425v but when i raised the multiplier to 20, I had to put the voltage at 1.55v. I didnt test it for too long because after 5 min of occt the temps reached 57C so I turned it off.

What's a safe voltage for 24/7 usage and how high can i let my temps get? Also is it normal that a 200mhz increase requires such a jump big jump in voltage or am i doing it wrong?

I wouldn't go over 1.45v for 24/7 usage, you'll find that the processor's lifespan will decrease significantly if you do.

Different chips like different voltages. If you need a huge voltage increase to increase it by 200 MHz, chances are that you've hit your 'overclocking wall', so to speak.

From what you've said, 3.8 looks like the most you're going to get out of that chip at a safe voltage for 24/7. I wouldn't be too disappointed, 200 MHz realistically makes no difference unless you specifically look for it.

most 955's hit the wall at 3.8 so it's normal
max is 62C but they become unstable past ~55C

also your motherboard is an unheatsinked 4+1 phase, so i would not go too far. 1.55v is probably too much for that board.

you need a good cpu heatsink for 4GHz.
1.55V is OK if your temps are below 62'C(best if you can keep them below 55'C)
Yes, its normal that big jump in voltage
Lower temps --> lower voltage for a ..whatever CPU clock
Overclock your CPU/NB too... like 2600
3.8GHz for CPU and 2600 for CPU/NB is better than 4GHz and 2000

955's and unlocked 555s don't go past 3.8GHZ often, sorry. 200MHZ isn't that much to worry about.

you can try 2600
Keep HT Link @ 2000
heatsink seems good, and , maybe a better fan will help you reaching 4GHz
My opinion is 3.8GHz and 2600

With a higher northbridge, you will see better performance than with 4ghz.

i seem to see a lot of 4 ghz + 955s around, i got to 4.4 when i had stability issues and voltages never went over 1.475, temp was 54 after i changed the layout of the case.

I hope you are joking here. I seen and had 955 and B55 going past 3.8ghz. Look at sig rig. It's unlock and at 4.0ghz.
To hit 4.0ghz on a 955 C3 you will need a better cpu cooler and vcore higher than 1.425v.
