Am I killing my Laptop?

Thread Starter
I've been having some interesting issues with my laptop the last few weeks. I have an Asus G73JH (Sig rig) and I have a few things attached to it.

Always:
Powered speakers plugged into headphone jack
Logitech G5 mouse
Microsoft Sidewinder X6 keyboard
Powered usb hd enclosure

In addition sometimes:
usb twin fan laptop cooler
bluetooth wireless controller dongle
phone tethered to computer.

Every so often, my USB devices go dead, then come back up. IE, the lights go off on my keyboard and my mouse dies.

Am I taxing the power supply of this laptop too heavily?

its probably just because your power adapter can't supply enough juice.

Look into maybe getting an externally powered usb adapter? thats what I did for mine, just because my laptop couldn't even pump out enough juice to charge my phone lol

That's what I would think, That's quite a few things your trying to run off it.. Just eliminate devices you don't completely need and see if it improves or not.

That's pretty much what I had figured. Thanks for the reinforcement!

Do you still have a warranty? If you do try and get a replacement power supply. It might be degrading a little bit. I have the same laptop, how do you like it?

also, check your power management settings, maybe your system shuts down USB devices when not in use or after a period of time?

It happens to my USB slots on my lappy too. You're pulling more power from the slots than they can consistently provide. Fun times. When it happens, sometimes there's a message that states it can't recognize the USB device and a menu pops up showing the USB port with a reset button on the bottom. All I do is click 'reset' and it just restarts the ports.

Simple fix. Annoying problem... >.< I didn't think the G9x pulled that much power.
