What that would mean is that the game was designed with consoles in mind, or as the primary focus, but that doesn't make it a console port.

Hmm.. Maybe he just meant that C2 was made more around the considerations for consoles than the earliest retail version.

But if you go through the super technicalities like you seem to have written an article about.. then maybe no..

I guess calling it a "console port" was the easiest.. than saying something like: "it technically isn't but the consoles played a significant role in shaping the sequel due to its pros/cons or what not".

Hopefully the message is understandable with just those two short words.

I agree that the game has a console-like feel to it. I've just been trying to explain that it's not a port. I'm hoping to get people on OCN to know the difference between a console port and a game designed with console users in mind (whatever you want to call that).

just because crysis 2 doesnt use all the features of CryEngine3 doesnt mean that crappy unreal engine is better.

I've worked with CryEngine2 a lot. If I was going to try to re-create an environment as realistically and cheaply/easily as possible, I would only turn to it again.

Daeum, I need to learn programming/coding so I can make some shinies with CE3. But where does one begin, other than going to "programming school" ( lol what do you call it ? ), which I am in like a year and a half. But until then, would be kewl to begin on my own at home with some basic stuff. Which I guess CE3 isnt, despite people saying its easy to work with. Basic I mean... This thread needs more rambling !
Anyway, good job CryTek and good job universities. Too bad Ill never go to university, unless programming school (srsly ?) can be comsidered a form of university. In that case /fingerscrossed

Man you are such an idiot! Makes me wonder if you have ever been disowned, or don't have any friends . You are basically saying that just because it runs on DX9, means it sucks. I bet you wouldn't say that to games like Half Life 2, or Left 4 Dead. But yet, THEY too are rendered in DX9. And please don't pull a "ohh thats an old game" because Portal 2 is also DX9!

And with your whole " Why do consoles have to ruin everything" argument, you know, Consoles don't get everything the best way possible. Fine our hardware at times may not be pushed to it's limits, but hey! We get 90% of the time, FREE DLC, Dedicated Servers, Modifications, and even more things! There are so many things that Console Users are missing out on, and you think that just because a console forced a game to only support DX9 ( also DX11 is coming to Crysis 2. Surprised you didn't know that. maybe you are even more idiotic than I thought.), that "consoles therefore ruin everything"?

Maybe you should actually think before you say something. But than again, I don't know if you are capable of such acts.

CE3 isn't out yet, but I'd imagine it's like Cryengine 2 editor in interface. That and of course access to developer's tools so you can modify the engine itself at the source. If I were you, I'd probably just watch some tutorials on how to use Cryengine 2 and then transfer over your knowledge when 3 comes out. And of course learn, if you haven't already, C++, which I believe is the base language for CE3
