We should call it a Compsole port.

Well 'port' is the term that is being used incorrectly. Maybe just put a sticker on the box that says 'Made for Consoles, PC-compatible'

Yes, it might look cheesy, but it sure as hell looks awesome.

tbh, crysis(first one) didn't look all that realistic to me but it looked great, or maybe I've lost a sense of realism looking at all the games coming out these days

Well the way I see it is if we call it that then it doesn't matter where it's ported from or what it's made for.

But I have to say I like the "Made for consoles, PC- Compatible" that pretty much sums up the largest portion of the gaming market.

There was one when I originally signed up to develop for Blue Mars, 18 months ago, but that has long since expired.

On the subject of console port or not: strictly from the game developer process, Crysis 2 was built on a PC, because that is the only platform the Sandbox 3 editor runs on, and where the game programming is done. Then it is cross-compiled for the consoles.

Since they had to work with the limitations of the consoles, such as memory, and appear not to have had the staff to do a PC version simultaneously, they did one version that would run on all three. That's not a port so much as simultaneous development for all three. They can come back later and do an update for the PC, which I would like to see.

I seriously hope you don't work for DICE.

I don't. But if it's a multi-platform game there is a good chance it'll have some sacrifices made during production to make it work better with consoles.

Developers don't have to make the PC version closer to consoles just because it's multi-platform, but it's very common because it is so much cheaper. They can go nuts with the PC version and make the hardcore crowd happy, but that's still not entirely profitable. Sometimes companies like Nvidia will shell out money if they do some nice stuff to show off their latest cards, and that is occasionally enough money for the developer to consider it. We'll see what happens with BF3, I'm hoping for something awesome graphics-wise, but really I care much more about a fun game, large maps, lots of players, etc...., than I do about DX11 and insane graphics.
