Wood from a discarded desk found on the curb, mine below with that on top of carpet.

Sorry if i'm a bit uneducated about this, but what would the disadvantages of putting your rig on the carpet?

I have my rig on the carpet for half a year now. Would putting it on a piece of wood going to be better? O.o

A few posts back I explained it, but I'll do it again

If you have your PSU upside-down for better cable management, it's going to exhaust out of the bottom of your case obviously since your fan is going to be upside down.

Since the fan is exhausting from the bottom of the case, you need to elevate your computer for the air to exhaust and for it to get air, period. This is where your case feet come into play. In most cases carpet isn't bad but it's not great, however, in most cases the case feet will sink into the carpet providing no elevation, which equals no exhaustion, and no air really.

Basically, you're choking it of air/not allowing any air to exhaust.

oh hehe, saw 5 pages so yeh... I think i got too lazy... But so aside from lack of air, there's nothing else? ok ^_^ thanks a lot, I have an inch of space underneath my case so i think i'll be fine ^_^

+rep to you my dear friend

if you have a top mounted PSU there is nothing wrong with having it on carpet. but if you have a bottom mounted PSU and have it positioned so it is drawing air from the bottom, you are effectively choking it of air.

think of it this way: try sticking your face on a pillow and breathing through it.....can you do it? yes, can you do it for long periods of time? No you will probably just pass out

I've got a couple of extra pieces of 12"x12" tile laying here that I'm going to use with my new case (too large for my current desk config). Tile's fairly cheap and will look better than plywood IMO.

Could use a peice of thick wood and paint it or stain it so it looks good and cut it so it fits under your case and does not stick out.

install some casters on your case. It will elevate it and save your back when you need to move it.

i actually buy a case with the size of my desk in mind.

The CM 690 II fits perfectly. Although it's currently outside the desk as i had to work on it last week due to a leak. So right now it just sits on the carpet.
