HELP =( Paint troubles....

post #1 of 5

Question.... if you notice in the picture the painter's tape left a residue... although it's not sticky. But it's definitely noticeable in the right light. Is there anything I can use to clean it without breaking down the paint? Also have planned to sand it with 1000grit but want to get it cleaned up first, or would it matter? I still have the clear coat to apply and buff.

Try WD-40, thats about as mild as you can get.

And yes, it has to be very clean before you wet sand.
Also, how long ago did you paint it? You should let it cure for a while before wet sanding. Then let the coats of clear cure for several months before wet sanding and polishing.

You can use a citrus cleaner like this:

(can also be found at Home Depot)

Just start with a diluted formula at first. 4:1 water to cleaner is a good place to start.

I think I might try just hot soapy water first... then some WD-40. As for the curing of the clear coat I think I'll have the computer put together and then come back and sand/buff it later. I think I'll end up waiting until next week sometime to make sure the green has cured enough to stand a light sanding.
