What OS are you using?
Your sig says windows 7, but this polling rate problem you're describing is a known issue with windows XP and X58 and all newer chipsets....
It doesn't affect windows 7 (unless your problem is different).
Symtom: mouserate, markc's mouse movement recorder, etc, shows hz going from 30hz to 2500hz alternating back and forth, dx mouse timer dialog shows the same 30-2500hz rate, which is a calculation error, as the max rate is correctly given as 518 hz (at 500hz polling), while directx mouse poller shows the real polling rate (like going from 490 to 518).
Oddly enough, this problem goes away in XP if you use ventrilo/xfire and go to recording settings, and use a non creative labs soundcard as the recording device....then the polling rate becomes glass smooth as if it were W7...(until ventrilo is closed...)
