Sound?

Thread Starter
During moments when my GPU is stressed 100% or in games that reach 100% GPU usage, I get this high pitched white noise, it goes up, then it goes down. Its not crackling or ticking or any jet noises, just this noise.

Apart from that, as soon as I run kombustor or furmark, there's also this quiet ''shh'', wind like noise. Its very hard to explain.

Apart from the white noise that I described first, the 2nd one is impossible to hear unless I put my ear into it.

Should I be worried about different noises or anything ?

GTX 560 btw. Twin Frozr II.

(The 2nd noise is not made by the fans, because unless the card is stressed its not there.)

Does your computer then freeze? I had a dying card and my computer would freeze and then my sound would loop.
Hmmm...

This could be capacitors whining. It happens sometimes, and its not necessarily a problem.

Does it happen when the card is at stock, or OCed?

Sounds to me like coil noise. It's when your card tries to render a large amount of frames at once, the more it renders the higher pitched the sound is.

It happens quite a lot in menus and loading screens where your card renders 200+fps.

The only thing you can do to fix it (software based) is enable/force VSync.

OH! I know what the sound you are talking about is. Yes, turn on the Vsync and it will go away. I had this sound when I first played crysis. Turned on Vsync and it was gone.

No freezes at all. Card performs well as it should.

The card is OC'd from 880 on core stock to 910.

Ok, so thats first noise gone. What about the second, the ''ssh'' one ? lol

The 2nd noise isnt getting any lower or higher, it's just there, not hearable from the seat. It only happens when card is being used.

its called "the gpu is working" ... totally normal.

Its a squeal as others have mentioned when the GPU is under load..and there is heavy draw through the inductor coils and capacitors. There a few things to fix this.. the easiest is get a better PSU.

*believe it or not..the +12v inputs on your gpu are the root cause of this issue in most cases. If your +12v is dipping to 11.6v etc.. it puts great strain on the mosfets and power circuits.

Upgrading from a TX750 to a TPQ1200 brought up the +12v inputs on my pci-e connections from 11.7v to 12.1v ... my gtx285's dont make a whimper any more
