Graphics card EMI

Thread Starter
I seem to be getting some really bad EMI issues from my motherboards onboard audio. I think this problem might have something to with my graphics card since when I am on the title screen of minecraft the noise changes / gets worse.

Here is the strange part... When the audio jack and the metal edge of the IO shield are touching I can hear the very same interference. Same when the jack is touching the top part of my cases fan?

The motherboard and graphics card are installed properly and I have washers between the screw and the motherboard so I have no idea how the motherboard could be touching the case? confused.gif

any help would be appreciated

Thanks redface.gif

Check out this thread. It's also an NZXT case, so the fix should be similar.

OR you can purchase a sound card, install it and be done with it. Either way works.

I had the same exact problem. The sound was apparent even when moving the mouse around on my desktop.
I sent my motherboard in for an RMA, because nothing else I tried worked.
A week later, I get the motherboard back with a "NTF" (which I assume means "Nothing To Fix") note on it.

I ended up moving my computer to another area in my room. When I booted up the computer - the sound was gone.
Now whether or not whether Asus actually fixed anything or moving my computer to a different outlet is what did the trick - I have no idea, but you should definitely try and save yourself the RMA turnaround time by trying out a different wall outlet.

tl;dr: Try plugging your computer in a different outlet.

Tried using diffrent power connectors and sockets but it made no difference frown.gif Would this sound card be OK? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Creative-Labs-Sound-Blaster-SB0670-X-Fi-PCI-Sound-Card-/270658237318

Would the EMI be filtered out by this card and does it work with windows 7 64 bit?

Sorry to bump my own thread BUT I just tried out my headset on my logitech g510 built in audio port and I can hear the same EMI noise! The headset is USB powered so I had to connect it to the front pannel usb port.

The keyboard has a built in audio chip so this kind of rules out the integrated audio as the culprit?

BTW before I got my new monitor I had a crappy old LCD screen with built in speakers and I could hear the exact same noise so its not the headsets fault.

Any ideas?
