Phenom II 955 Black vs. i5 2500K - Page 5

Yes, the 2500k is awesome but it doesn't seem like the right choice in this particular case. Mostly that he hardly "needs" the performance gains when he could get an awesome graphics card for the remaining money and create a more balanced system.

Or just wait and hope Bulldozer will be good. It will presumably (most definitely) be better the current/old PII line, so that's a start, considered my assumptions are right.
I would wait a few months for BD.
Again why wait? He can build a 2500 rig with great graphics card for his 700 bucks. No need to wait.

Either have the performance now...or wait a few months...that's a tuff one.

The thread title states phenom or 2500k...the answer is clear. He did not ask in title should I twiddle my thumbs until bulldozer comes out.

A couple used CPU/Mobo combos for sale in these forums.

I've owned the board in this thread and it's nice for a uATX. $125

I could do wicked things with this combo and two GTX 460s. $130

Buying used will let you put dough in the rest of your case -> SSD.

SSD does not help FPS in first person shooter gaming like the OP stated he wanted.

Levels load so much faster. Such less painful when changing areas with an SSD.

now i dont have any screenshots or anything(didnt think i would need them for someone who might want "proof"), but i just came from a phenom II x4 945@3.7ghz. for one day i had a x6 1090t@4ghz, and i am now running a 2500k@4.9ghz(4.7ghz for the following results).

i do quite a bit of video converting and i wanted to test the difference between my current(at the time), 945 and the 1090t i had just purchased for $220.

using tmpgenc, i converted a 90min 720p mkv file to 720p 2-pass divxhd.

with the 945 it took 50min. with the 1090t it took about 47min. a couple days ago i ran it again with the 2500k and it took 29min.

now that is some real world experience that makes me happy that i made the leap to intel after having built 3 amd systems over the past 10 years.

But if you have to wait for the other non-ssd users to load before match begins ad you can even do anything? In MMORPG I would be heavely inclined to agree. However Im a FPS player myself and alot are dependent on CPU. Having a 2500 under the hood would benefit more than having and SSD.

This is a easy one: Phenoms are a better bang for the buck, you dont need to play metro 2033 @ 1500 fps, 50 is enough, so get your 955 for cheap money, then get a nice gpu and g2g!

But if your trying to render some movies in 3ds or something like that you might consider spending more money to save some time, otherwise your wasting your money

Agreed I came from a 1055t and the real world results where amazing in FPS games. I was pissed that my money was wasted on phenom. Real world results are always good to hear, to many think synthetic benches are good.

but he has the money why wait? If he can afford 2500k why not get it? Believe me metro 2033 really benefits from the 2500.

lol, I certainly won't be waiting for your slow computer bottlenecked by that hard drive. I'll shoo you out of my group in a second if I see you loading up slow.
