Well .. Actually the 2500K performs around 50% better in many applications (and noticable some games as well) than the Phenom II 955, while the 2500K is only 1/3 more expensive.
Not to menton it's OC potential ..

However, you point is clear, the PII 955 will not bottleneck the GPU by a noticeable margin in 95% of the games out there.

Sigh...You obviously don't play FPS games. Everyone is forced to wait until everyone else has loaded in each match. Then countdown starts. If the person loads way to slow they just dont spawn until they load all the way. My rig with its mechanical drive always loads me first in the game so, your wrong. No way the a SSD would be better for FPS games than a faster processor.

Mechanical drives never slowed me down in games ever.

Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) for $209

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz for $229

Cheaper and performs better on everything, choice should be clear.

The thing is there is always going to be something more and more expensive, its like telling someone that should waste money just because he has it, not cool man.

Or telling this super rich kid that he should pay intel engineers to build him a custom supercomputer that costs 1kk just because hes rich to play games... If he doesnt need it, he doesnt need it, let him spend the money in something else, like cars, women, w/e he likes..

Whats not cool is people trying to convince a new builder to waste money on outdated tech. When he clearly stated the money he wants to spend and I answered with best option.

SO, you think phenom is better for gaming than a 2500k? Don't beat around the bush, answer it with a screenshot of you in a game beating my i5's FPS.

Exactly, you throw up benchmarks of crap that doesn't even matter. The OP wants advice for gaming so if you cant provide real world proof IN GAME that phenom is better than you fail, troll AMD fanaticism elsewhere.

Wasting money would be spending in something you dont need, not something that its outdated.

And there is always a better option for a bigger amount of money, so sandy bridge its outdated too. Sorry bro

Your logic fails Im not talking about best option period regardless of price. I was talking best option for $700. OP said which is better phenom or 2500k, the answer is obvious to any no fan boy.

Sticking with the OP title what is the better CPU?

the 4 core phenom ii is left in the dust, only thing that can equal a stock 2500k is a overclocked phenom ii 1090t up to 4 Ghz with its NB overclocked to 2600 as well.

that's why i had to overclock it, to get something i7 equal.
