New to Overclocking - Page 2

I managed to get off work earlier today. I went home, tried to do some cable management. It turned out okay. But I am not satisfied. Much more to learn and practice.

Anyway, I raised the turbo multiplier to 40, and left the CPU voltage at auto. Memory timings and voltage were set according to its specifications.

nice overclock, why dont you try and see how far it will go with the stock voltage. Drop it down to default settings in bios, load the os and using cpu-z note down the voltage it needs for 3.3ghz, then go back to the BIOS and up the multi until you bsod. Each time you increase the multi, load the os and prime blend for a few mins (10/15mins blend between changes in the bios is good)

GOOD LUCK

I let the bios itself to determine on the voltage. And I enabled Speed Step and Turbo. So I couldn't identify an absolute voltage. Should I disable it to find the absolute default voltage?

I have another question. I didn't touch BCLK. But from the screenshot shown, the BCLK dropped by 0.2MHz. It shows 100MHz in BIOS and also in the Auto Tuner utility. I didn't read about such occurrence before. Can someone enlighten me?

you dont have to disable it, just run prime on stock to see what the load voltage is on cpuz. I would advise overclocking from the bios, there is debate whether or not bclk is safe to change, I personally leave it on 100 with no problems.

EDIT: I believe you should be able to maybe reach 4.3/4.4 without any voltage change.

Nice going for your first OC - looks good to me, youll end up with a quite nice clock I think - just keep on clocking, and let us know if you get stuck!

Sorry for the late reply. I went to bed after OC'ing last night. munaim1, are you saying that I should set my VCore manually according to the maximum voltage my CPU runs at 3.3GHz (On load) and then notch up the turbo multiplier as high as possible?

Yep find out what the stock voltage is for your CPU under load. Then set the vCore manually to that in the bios then start upping the multiplier until it isn't stable anymore. Then back off one and you'll have your stable overclock at stock voltages.

Thank you for your confirmation. I will try that right away after work today.

BTW, do you know why my BCLK is 0.2 MHz lower? I didn't change it at all. And it still shows 100MHz in BIOS. But after raising the turbo multiplier to x40, my BCLK is at 99.8MHz maximum (As can be seen in the screenshot few posts before). I even used the Asrock utility in Windows, and it shows that the BCLK is at 100MHz. Is this normal?

that is kinda of normal nothin to worry

hence even at x40 u will be somthin like 3990 mhz .. its kool

what is u r volatge at load ?

and dont worry there will be a volatge drop at load this also normal; these are the common things u will notice when u r overclocking for the 1st time.

and overclocking to 4 ghz is nothing for 2500K if you are not having stock cooler.
you can easily go up to 4.5 ghz for a 24/7 use
keep your temperature below 75 C while running prime 95, did u run prime 95 ?
