Athlon II Overclocking Guide (beginner friendly) - Page 27

No this sounds like a RAM issue. Don't set it to auto, set it to 666Mhz. If that doesn't boot, try increasing the DRAM voltage to 1.6v and/or loosening the timings if you can.

Just a quick question, you say that HT works best at 2000, but I cant get it exact with my brothers OC, and for some reason LinX does not work on his system so I have no indication of the performance value.
So, performance wise, would it be best to have the HT at 1880 or at 2115?
I would just run LinX for the performance value but like I said, for some reason it wouldnt work, so I had to use OCCT for stability testing and Prime95. The target system uses an Athlon II x2 245.
Thanks in advance if anybody can help with this.

The HT Link of my Athlon II x2 250 runs better at the 1800-1900 mark than at 2100+mhz.

Thanks jason. I will drop the multi and see if I can notice a difference. I left it at 2115 because that was the least difference from stock, if only by 5mhz lol

What will really make a difference is your Cpu-nb frequency. Get is as high as you can. Right now i'm running mine at 2770mhz.

Do I really need an aftermarket cooler to OC my Athlon II x4 640? Because to be honest I'd rather not buy a separate cooler.

Yes frown.gif AthII quad is already pushing the stock cooler to capacity. With a dual or tri-core you might be able to skip on the aftermarket cooler and still have a mild OC, but quad is pushing it.
Can you find a pic of your stock cooler? Who knows, maybe you have one of those Phenom stock coolers with heatpipes smile.gif They are fine for OC.
The regular Athlon piece of aluminium is not, I've tried it with dual and tri-core. By the time you get to feel the OC, it already starts to overheat.

That is, unless you live in Alaska.
