Need Help with Build

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
Hi there Overclock.net

My issue is this,

I've decided to build a PC from scratch and have started with a case so far.
The case is an AYWUN A1-102 BLACK MICRO ATX CASE WITH 420W PSU.
I'm fairly confident with this type of case, being smaller but able to have decent MOBO's that suit my taste.

I was hoping to get your opinions on what to do next.
I'm considering OC'ing my CPU too.

A few necessary things I need in the build process are as follows;

MOTHERBOARD
~~~~~~~~~
Containing or supporting the following:
2 or more DDR3 DIMM slots
An LGA-775 INTEL CPU Socket (and an appropriate cheap cooling method for placing onto the CPU)
Stock VGA Input (so before I get a GPU I can change windows settings, apply bios updates etc.)
And a PCI Express 2.0 or (2.1 depending on the GPU)
RAM
~~~
I'm not too worried as long as it's DDR3 and suits the MOBO (Correct Speed settings and support). Also preferably just 1GB of RAM so I can upgrade later on.

CPU
~~~
I'm looking at an Intel® Celeron® Processor E3400
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42772
(Preferably this CPU because it's nice and cheap and in a nearby store to my house.)
[Not sure if a heatsink or fan comes with Intel's CPU's???]
If anyone thinks this CPU should be better or lesser please tell me.
GPU
~~~
I would like a PCI-E 2.0 (or 2.1 if you find a decently priced GPU that will work with the chosen motherboard and fit in the case)

I'm not at all worried about Hard drives. I've got that completely sorted out.

So all summed up,
The case is a Micro ATX.
The motherboard I'm looking at getting is this: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=584572

The CPU I'm looking at getting is this:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42772

The GPU I'm looking at getting is this:
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=616985

The RAM I'm looking at getting is this:
http://www.impc.co.nz/products/kt_kvr1066d3s7-2g.html

So if you think any of those, apart from the Case and the motherboard, should be changed to suit a much 'better' configuration, please post. I need all the help I can get

Thanks Overclock.net!!

Unfortunately, the memory you've chosen is for Notebooks.
What is your budget?

RAM

If I were you, I would go newer. Maybe a Sandy Bridge build but I don't know your budget. The LGA 775 is getting a tad old.

Just realised that was the wrong link. Thought that RAM looks quite small all of a sudden Thanks for that.

LGA775 Is really what I'm looking for at the moment. I've got a better build than this project. It's for the GF (but don't want it as fast as mine.) GF's PC faster than mine = smaller balls

By the way that MOBO choice is absolutely sick and cheap and I feel dumb for not finding it.
Thanks!

BUDGET IS UNDER $400

Sorry for double post but,
That MOBO that you suggested, will that fit in my MICRO ATX case? Because that MOBO just says "ATX".

Wow. I'm sorry. You are right. If you really like that board, you could probably find a bigger case for a good price that will fit the board but that is up to you

I would consider getting a newer and larger power supply from a different brand. If you are even relatively thinking about over clocking you want a suitable power supply to get you across the finish line. Usually Corsair, Coolermaster, and OCZ are great brands.

I have Corsair and haven't had any problems. Great PSU's

As Inertia and MClouse have said, the stock 420w power supply included with the case is a lower wattage than is ideal, especially if overclocking. Corsair has always treated me right with PSU's, so I'll toss my vote in with them.

Good luck, hope it helps!

Oh my apologies but I do have a corsair PSU already: http://www.corsair.com/power-supplie...-1/hx650w.html
But it's for ANOTHER build not this one. I'm only willling to keep the 420W PSU for the time being.

Corsair usually has nice legroom even with their 450W for overclocking and say, 2 GPU's. So I'd have to agree with all of you there.

Will upgrade to corsair later on. Happy with the PSU I have now.

Just really need a nice MOBO that is MICRO ATX at the moment then I can move on from there with no problems.
