Really odd problem.

Hello everyone. Today when i tried to turn on my computer, it started up fine, but when it was supposed to beep (post) it turned down like i have pulled the plug. No signal on screen. I suspected the PSU but it worked fine on another system. What could it be?

I used to have the same problem and in the end it turned out to be the power supply it used to happen sometimes before the computer would boot and other times after an hour, suddenly turning off, Very frustrating!

Do you have another power supply you could use to see if this is at fault ?

You may have already tried this but I'd try the following steps one at a time:

- Clear the CMOS either with the jumper or by taking out the battery and putting it back in.
- Try your sticks of RAM seperately to see if it boots, or try another stick of DDR2 from another system.
- Do you have another CPU of the same socket you could try?

I know it's a pain to change the CPU around but it may just of gone bump. Let me know how you get on.

So the computer powers on, and when it ought to be doing the POST, it just shuts down?

Is the system overclocked at all? It sounds like what happens when my OC fails upon boot. Have you made sure everything is set to defaults in the BIOS? My bet (if your system is still overclocked) is an unstable OC.

I'm thinking bad BIOS settings or a faulty power supply.
