Which SSD is right for me?

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for an SSD. However, there are quite a bit of them on the market and it's becoming quite confusing to me.

I plan on having Windows 7 and maybe the game I'm playing the most at the time on the SSD.
My 300GB Velociraptor holding other games and data - essentially being my storage drive.
I figure I don't need a large capacity SSD, but I'm not sure what would be a good capacity to aim for.

What can you guys recommend?

In most if not all cases I always see people going 32/64GB SSDs and then having heavy buyers remorse because they didn't realize how LITTLE that is. I have a friend who has a 120GB SSD and even that's not too great. He has enough to install a few heavy games and some of his ideal programs, but that's it.

I'd say go for anything over 64GBs

64 - 128 is about right.

If you want near SSD speeds but can't afford the space then have a look at the momentus XT. No it's not as quick as SSD's but it's still impressive with a massive amount of space.

Yeah, if you're going to throw an OS and games, I advise a 80-128GB one at least.

My C300 is a great drive and the 128GB is $200 on newegg currently.

64GB is what I was thinking.
Although 128GB would be great if I could find one for a good price.
Which brand/model do you guys recommend?

Vertex 3 without a doubt.

I have a 64Gb C300 and I can fit windows, Crysis 2, Portal, Portal 2 and some apps on there.

Also if you remove your page file, hibernation and system restore you can get a lot of space back.

Aren't there issues with the SATA III SSDs?
I think I read something about them not having TRIM while skimming through some posts.

O'rly,

I didn't see that, even if that's the case i'm sure they'll fix it with a firmware update

If you're uncomfortable with that then the vertex 2. The only reason i'm not saying the C300 is the write speeds aren't great and if your'e uninstalling and installing on drives you want teh write speeds as well.

My 60GB is working fine for me. I moved my PF to another drive and disabled Restore and junk I don't use anyway. As is, im only using 20GB of the drive. Depends on what all you want on there
