How loud are GTs, really?

Thread Starter
I've heard that they're the quietest around from lots of people here, but I've never actually used them. I'm looking for someone who's used either NF-P12s, or Akasa Apaches, along with equivilent Gentle Typhoons. I think there's a 1400RPM version? Maybe 1350, not sure.

Hopefully, some people have experience with the fans at 12V, and 7/5.

Thanks all!

The Gentle Typhoons are as follows:

(all in RPM)
AP-13 1150
AP-14 1450
AP-15 1850

Just take a look at this video and you can see the difference in voltages.

This guy has 8 AP-15s on a quad RAD, just check out how quiet they are

The 5400 RPM fans on the other hand...HOLY **** they are loud

Yeah, I've heard all the noise videos, but they don't really tell the whole story; it's very hard to pick up noise quality over a video camera. I'm hoping someone has used GTs and Noctuas and can give me an idea.

I've used the Noctua NF-P12s and GT1450s. At full speed the Noctuas are louder but it's not an unpleasant sound. However I found that the new batch of GT1450s and 1850s I bought a couple of months ago have a very noticeable and to me unpleasant whine that isn't present in the 1450s and 1850s I bought around 18 months ago. It may be that Nidec have changed the design slightly or I've been unlucky enough to get a couple of bad batches.

Very very quiet. I got 4 of them and even on high it is more like the sound of air being pushed with a gentle whining noise of the motor working.

From my experience, GT-15's in push-pull against a rad, at 1850rpm you can hear it, but as Lord Xeb and others mention it's more of just pushing air noise. if you have a fan controller and set them for ~1350rpm they are dead silent and still give great cooling performance.
I have AP-15's on a rad and they are very silent at around 1300RPM or so. Even at that speed they give you great performance.

I have two of them in my computer and I can only hear them at night time when there is less ambient noise.

I have 12 runinng in my rig connected to a fan controller push/pull configuration, at full speed, I can hear them but not loud enough for me to get irritated or annoyed, lowering the speed down to 1kpm, I can barely hear them spinning, I have to feel the air with my hand just to check if they're still spinning ^_^

Thanks all for the help!

Over the Summer, I'll be upgrading from an RX360 to a Nova 1080, and I plan on changing fans then as well, so this will be very helpful.
