Do me a favor and run a test of Malwarebytes Antimalware, (it's free, google it) and see what it gets. The CPU usage seems odd even for so many processes.

Yeah, even with your GPU.

However, I'm the same way you are: I'm my computer's worst critic.

I like my computer, I know i would stay happy for a good 5-6 years if i had a Q9650, 8GB RAM, GTX460, 60GB SSD, 1TB HDD. but that wont happen for atleast 3-4 years yet.

So, earlier I reactivated my Facebook. And I was having the same problem as you. Browsing Facebook and noticed that my CPU usage would spike at 100% and actually hang... Not sure why. I know it's not any extension/add on related thing. It must be Facebook themselves...

This used to happen to me when I ran Chromium 11. I switched back to Chrome and have not bad that issue.

This happens in both Firefox and Chrome. Which is quite strange, this happens on NO other websites other than FB.
