CPU throttling problem - on load

Thread Starter
Hey,

I am experiencing CPU throttling problems. Although, I cannot seem to find out what is triggering the throttling. My temperatures are low enough, and have disabled 'Cool n Quiet' as-well as 'C1E support'. My PSU should also be able to give enough juice.

I have uploaded a video to megaupload, dunno why I didn't to youtube, but will if people are scared of virus's tongue.gif

If you don't want to watch it, the multiplier is dropping from 17.5x to 4x and the voltage drops to 1.

Breif specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 940 BE
MB: Asus M4A78
GPU: XFX HD 4870 1GB
PSU: Antec TruePower New 650W

Video

Any help will be good.
Cheers,
David.

CPU is throttling because of your overheated Voltage Regulators(MOSFETs).
You need a heatsink for them

Something like this? - Assuming that the current heatsinks are standard looking things like this...

DSC05335.jpg

Or could they/it be just a bare chip currently?

Definitely. I run into the same problem on my M4785TD-V EVO. It came with a heatsink on the MOSFETS so it just happens at a higher voltage - about 1.48v, about 200 watts of draw on my CPU - but yes, it still throttles it down.

RMA the motherboard as this happens at stock with a supported CPU.

I'd like to see your actual voltage through CPU-Z, not the windows VID.

Not quite stock speed, video says 3492 MHz on a 3 GHz CPU, with VID of 1.3625v.

If I was stuck with that mobo/CPU I'd undervolt it at stock speed, but that's just me. After all I've always been partial to boards with MOSFET sinks, even if I was putting 65w CPUs on them.
