ASUS G73SW-XA1 Arrives Today~ Advice

Thread Starter

So, i get my first laptop ever today:

(It was 1400 at the time, not the 1800 displayed right now)

What i'd like to know is, what is the first things i should do when i get it?

1. Remove bloatware. (not sure the easiest way to find it all.)
2. Update drivers? (Do i have to do this or will it come ready?)
3. Make backup DVD.. (I heard laptops don't come with a windows 7 dvd, this bugs me as i wanted to eventually get a SSD installed in here and put Win 7 on it and now i'm thinking ill have to buy a seperate windows to do that?)
4.??? << Any advice?

Thanks =)

1. Reinstall. Don't even bother to manually remove the crap.
2. device manager will tell you if anything is missing a driver

Alright, how do i reinstall though? I'm told it does not come with a windows 7 disc.. (if i already have a win 7 disc, will it at least come w/ the keycode? I have a win 7 update disk to update from vista to win 7.. if that works w/o vista ever being there)

there should be an option to create backup disk. don't use your own disc as each key is for different versions of window.

Does the backup disc only backup windows then? I was under the impression that the backup disc would restore the laptop as is, aka with all the junkware. ;p.

Thanks for putting up with these questions btw.

Also, do i have to do anything like, "Fully charge the laptop for 24 hours before using it blah blah."

On that note, are their any guidelines for battery maintenance

Most disks have all versions on them.

From what i could see, no blueray, 750 gig instead of 1000 gig (ill buy a SSD next year) 1 year accident & normal warranty vs 1 year accident & 2 year parts

Also the S1 came w/ a backpack and some mouse.

For me, this was a better deal. For others, the s1.

Also, since this thread got bumped, ill go ahead and add that i got my lappy solved, fresh windows install w/ just the basics so it works quick as can be.

What to do:

1) Reinstall Windows. License key is underneath the laptop. Every computer with Windows installed will have a license key that looks like this:

2) Download the latest drivers from NVIDIA here.
3) Let Windows install all the other drivers automatically.
4) Have fun

P.S. you don't need to make a backup unless you plan to resell the laptop in the future and want it to come as it did when you bought it.
