I know 3 tweaks myself. Are they recommended to perform, or do you know others?
2) Is there still such a thing called paging file/virtual memory in windows 7? if yes, what to set it on?
-Click on the Start Button and key in Device Manager and hit Enter.
-Expand Disk Drives.
-Right click on your hard drive and select Properties.
-On the Policies tab:
Windows 7: Check Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device.
-Hit OK and close Device Manager.
Tweak two (remove unused fonts in windows7):
-Open control panel
-Open fonts folder
-Do backup of all my fonts
-After taken abckup of all my fonts, delete those fonts I dont use daily.
Tweak three (Disable Windows 7 Indexing)
-Click on “start†and enter “services.mscâ€.
-Search through the list until you find “Windows Searchâ€.
-Doube-click on “Windows Search†and from the dropdown field select startup type: “Disabledâ€.
-Stop the service.
Now to my AHCI issue
How do I get my single HDD, to run in ACHI mode? I never figured it out. So ive just had it run in IDE mode the whole time.
I once tryed to enable AHCI in bios, but that resulted in a BSOD lol
Acording to my motherboard manual, these settings here, have someting to do with AHCI:
"PCH SATA mode: IDE/RAID(XHD)/AHCI"
"eSATA Ctrl Mode: IDE/AHCI"
But like I said above, it resulted in a BSOD when both set to AHCI. Dont know what I did wrong.
1. i haven't really needed to tweak anything other than PF
2. Yes there is page file. on my system i keep it on one of my secondary drives, and because i have 9GB of ram i keep the PF limited in size to 750-1000MB.
as far as your other tweaks, i don't see the first two improving performance at all. the last one might.
And for AHCI, there is a string in the registry that you need to change before the computer will boot under AHCI. the other way would have been to set AHCI before windows was first installed. i'm not sure what the registry string is but i think i saw it in one of the stickied SSD setup threads.....
