But for all you people running windows 7, or just have knowldge about it, please help me.

The reason why I have been sticking with my xp64bit for 2 years now, is because it still uses "direct3dsound" feature. And therefor I can still enjoy EAX at its full performance.

However in vista MS completly killed "direct3dsound" and to gain EAX effects again, you needed a program called alchemy from creative.
Its still the same in windows 7? Alchemy does not support every game out there. So what do you guys with windows 7 do, to gain EAX effects once again?

This is whats keeping me to abonded my xp64bit. I enjoy the EAX effect. Even todays modern games uses them. But vista/windows 7 does not have "direct3dsound", and therefor no EAX supported.

EAX is dead. You'll need alchemy just for older games. The new games got the effects incorporated into their gaming engines. The new thing they pushing for is thx. You'll find that more and more receivers are coming out with the thx function.
some info about it can be found here

ok.
Windows 7 home 64bit Full (no OEM) ordred

Hope im gonna like it.

EDIT: Actually two questions now.
But my last question:
1) If I play older games that requires DX9.0 to function, then I need to install DX9.0, right? but will it overwrite DX11?

2) Have I found the correct chipset driver for my Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5?

NO it's all automatic for the most part. as far as your concerned it has dx9 built in or dx11 is backwards compatible.

run the utility to see if you even eed to update the drive as linked below in your link. win 7 is rather good about getting drivers for you the only one you really need to worry about is getting the latest gfx card driver.

direct x is built in windows 7 and unlike xp it doesn't botch drivers update infact if anything you might accidentally down grade them. all you need is alchemy and gfx drivers. i see you have an i5 so the board is new enough the web site might have newer drivers assuming 7 even installs them. more than likely it will automatically install the same drivers from the web site.

What?
Does windows 7 install my chipset driver + lan driver + audio driver all by itself?
Or do you mean its via windows update?

But if it just installs every driver at startup, that kinda scares me a little bit.

EDIT: If I turn off automatic updates for windows, shouldnt that solve my "problem"?

no it won't, it will install it automatically if it has in the Microsoft driver repository and more than likely come from gigbyte, you are a funny man. look I work at shop thats in been in business for 30 freaking years man i'm talking early 80s computer tech.

We have never had any problems with windows 7 drivers it's nothing like at all like xp drivers it does a very good job using the correct drivers. and as i said you freaking chipset driver has tool for down load in the link you gave to each version and if the win 7 isn't all that new it will tell you can manual inst over the on top of the one win 7 has.

you don't have to scrounge for evey last bit of performance like xp 7 does a really damn good job managing thing especial memory where xp has horrid memory leaks after leaving it run for more than 2 days when 7 just keeps on ticking.

"EDIT: If I turn off automatic updates for windows, shouldnt that solve my "problem"?"

I wouldn't call it a it a problem i would call it a feature. I will tell you this i was able to manulay install my motherboard drivers for my foxconn if the 7 drivers are newer it tell you and let you know and tell you can't install the drivers becasue the are older than the currently installed version.

so lets refresh here
#1 7 does good job at drivers and updates unlike xp or vista
#2 if you really want you can still manually install your drivers
#3 if the drivers are newer then what win 7 has it will install just fine and if they are older it will simply give you message saying so.

#4 7 has better memory management then xp
#5 7 is just as fast if not faster than xp on most application and games.

^nope its not faster than xp on applications and games. 7 is still bloated and dx 11 it has a huge performance hit compared to dx 9.

Windows 7 is safer and manufacturers shifted they support towards it and stopped to release drivers for xp.

All the drivers or most of them are installed with 7. Its just the gpu and soundcard drivers that needs to be updated immediately. But remember to use a driver cleaner to clean them out first. That's all drivers you need to worry about as the chipsets drivers only get released once a bluemoon and you'll find that you use the same one till you jump onto a new os again. Btw windows has been leaked

Its software emulation basically. That's why creative needs to ship a 300mb installer file with their cards.

Source or I call shenanigans, aka your full of it. Please stop trying to scare him. I actually go out of my to at least try things for my self and test the os.
