What laptop do you have? I mean I would think it would be the right drive, unless WD makes their drives slightly out of spec.

In that case, I wouldn't really take the gamble on seeing if it'll fit or not, I think you might have a better chance looking elsewhere.

It isn't out of spec. It just uses the thicker 12.5mm Z-Height instead of the standard 9.5mm Z-Height. Due to the amount of platters required for that much disk space there is no way to make them in the old standard 9.5mm Z-Height. You'll probably need to stick with a 750gb drive or smaller to fit your laptop or mod the drive bay and the drive bay cover to accommodate it.

If you are unsure if it will fit or not, contact HP Customer Support or take your old drive out and see if there is about 3/16" of clearance at the top of the drive to allow it to fit.

I'm stuck in the same place you are. I have several of the Seagate Constellation.2 SATA 3 1 TB drives that are 12.5 Z-Height and they won't fit into either of the laptops I was hoping to use them in.

Also, the 640gig and 750gig drives are faster than that one anyway.
