Fixing a broken sata connector

Thread Starter
I have a 1TB hitachi, and the plastic backing to the sata pins is gone.
The cable no longer holds a connection on its own.

How might one rectify this situation?
No, do not tell me to buy another drive, scrap it, or whatever. Thats a waste of my time and yours. This drive has data on it that I want back, and its perfectly function except one tiny piece of plastic being gone.

Currently the only useful suggestion I've gotten is to strip down a sata cable and solder it to the pins, but I have very poor soldering skills and would end up cause the pins to splatter solder on each other and ruin the connection.

If all the pins are intact you could hot glue the cable in place.

I would try small wire crimps instead of hotglue.
something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104091 just in a smaller gauge.

I have the exact same problem just on my motherboard. I hate SATA connectors, so cheap and flimsy. -.- I only have 4/6 SATA ports on my mobo.
