I cant remember writing: ask me to hurry so that i accidently damage something. I have gotten my answer. Its safe to boot. So i feel no need to rush at 4am for something that could wait until its all done. Yikes

Lapping (done properly) gets you better heat transfer from the CPU to your cooling solution of choice, regardless what that happens to be. OP's on water, but he's hoping to squeeze a little bit more out of his chip this way.
