Phenom 9950 + 6970... a suicide? - Page 3

You are going to lose money if you sell the 6970. Since you already have it, just keep it.
Since you're getting over 40 to 60fps in maxed out games, there is no need to upgrade cpu. Stick with your 9950 until you have enough cash for a major upgrade like a 1090T or bulldozer.

Bulldozer should be out mid-end June, if you can hold out until then, I'd just wait and upgrade then! Depending on how good it is in relation to what you need, you could get that or jump on SB. If you can't afford it, there will probably be a lot of second-hand phenomII chips (and even 1st generation i7's) floating around for cheap.

i was hoping for some entry level i5/7 quad core (even 1st generation) <100€ to change platform in an intel + crossfire + DDR3, but are all ABOVE that price

we'll see in the future

Really, just wait for Bulldozer. That way you'll have the choice. Till BD is out you will also have the time to set some money aside. That way in June you will be able to choose between SB, BD and if the prices get interesting, some old PII or i5-700.

Don't worry, even if your CPU bottlenecks you right now, it won't be that much of a problem if you only have to wait for June.

thanks for the reply... i've done a run on the Metro 2033 bench and i got these results

Total Frames: 1894, Total Time: 59,81963 sec
Average Framerate: 31.76
Max. Framerate: 73.58 (Frame: 1666)
Min. Framerate: 9.14 (Frame: 926)

DX11 very high tasselation on and DOF off... i think a newer CPU (when bulldozer will be out) would raise my min frames (i never seen IN GAME under 25FPS anyway, i dunno why the bench get a low score in the min FPS's) to 14-15 but will not be a noticeable hit on the rest, so i decided to wait for new CPU's

i'll get DDR3 + bulldozer + mother board

Basically, my point of view is this:

You already have all your parts, and upgrading for no reason is not a great idea.

Also, upgrading to get more fps when the fps you get in games is more than enough for you is also not a great idea.

Therefore, I'd wait until you actually start to get what you consider low framerates, or framerates that impact your enjoyment of a game before you upgrade. Upgrading for upgrading's sake is not necessary.

I'd wait until bulldozer, and then get either bulldozer or sandy bridge (a 2500k is currently the best processor out for gaming), with 4GB of reasonable DDR3. Ultimately, just about any DDR3 running at 1600Mhz or so shouldn't impact performance significantly, so...

... I agree with waiting.

(Oh, and sorry I came so late to this thread).
