Negative, AM2+ will not work in an AM3 socket.

but Am3 will work in most/all AM2+ sockets.

Read the whole thread, just wanted to say something about the drivers. I know it's not what caused the failure to POST, however... If you managed to get the AMD drivers loaded, you should think about reformatting your hard drive. Most of the complaints about AMD drivers stem from use of driver sweeper. Really any time you switch sides, reformatting is a good idea just because there may be registry edits that might conflict and aren't included in uninstall or driver sweeper.

And no, your Phenom II 940 WILL NOT work in an AM3 board, as it lacks a DDR3 controller (as stated). So that would be a very unwise choice.

I also would advise against buying all new main components with BullDozer right around the corner. It'll be interesting to see what it does to the market, if anything.
Yeah. I am going to hold tight. I may pick up a new am3 cpu if i can find a good deal. It should work in my board with my new bios update.

After doing more research I figured I will spend an extra $60 and pick up the 560, instead of a 460. Screw ATI haha.

Maybe you have to uninstall the driver, I had to when I switched from my 8400GS to my 5770 in my old rig.

If the problem arose before the bios posted, the problem is hardware, not drivers.
