Brand New 5830 bad? - Page 8

NOTHING. Still does not work. I think the card is bad. I removed all nvidia drivers with
driver sweeper. I am going to try and update the bios one last thing..
That really sucks man.

A few things you can still try:
Swap PCIe slots as mentioned by another member
Update BIOS
Try booting to safe mode (assuming the machine will POST with the card in)

What are you going to do with the PSU situation then? Are you planning on keeping the 620, or returning it? I would still suggest you hang onto it personally, but its your call. The Antec TP3 550 that you have, has a strong reputation of going pop when its overloaded. The new one, will just shut off and prevent damage.

Updated the BIOS still no luck. The fan spins full speed but the monitor does not come on. Guess I got a dud. This whole ordeal has made me question why I ever went with a ATI card in the first place.... Another thing the card is pci x 16 2.1 I think my mobo is only 2.0 does that matter? I know the board is pretty out dated.

Either way I am going to keep the new PSU, just have to work hard to sell my spare parts. I will call Newegg and throw in a RMA. I will see if I can get my money back and go get a 470 or something, lol.

PCI Express is PCI Express. Doesn't matter if its a 1x or a 16x. Doesn't matter if its generation 1.1 or 2.0. It's all the same.

And yeah, definitely call Newegg and let them know they sent you a dead card. Don't blame ATI or Sapphire for it honestly. Dead on arrival parts happen sometimes.

But jumping up into a GTX470 is a great idea too. I'm looking to get another one myself (or 2 for SLI), that's how much I loved it.

Did you ever try the other PCIe slot?

See this is what happens when you recommended going out and buying something instead of simply checking what you can before hand. It starts a spiral of consuming because buying stuff is more thrilling then figuring out whats wrong.

I guess I'm mostly upset about how consumerism is destroying our planet and Americans are setting a terrible example for the rest of the developing world

I don't think your HD5830 is dead. There seems to be a problem with these boards accepting some ATI cards. I remember I was going to upgrade to a HD 4890 until I saw posts on the Asus Forum from people who could never get an ATI card from the HD4000 series and newer to work with the board.

Anyone know what would happen if he RMA'd to Sapphire? Are they still sending out 5830's or would he have a chance of getting bumped up?

And yet you still don't seem to understand that his old PSU was a ticking time bomb anyway, and that it didn't put out rated power even when it was new.

That PSU could have been slowly damaging parts over time.

It also could have been preventing decent clocks.

But hey, what do I know right? I've only owned 3 of those units, one being the 650 model.

Yep. Tried both slots.

I don't mind spending my hard earned money on a hobby that I enjoy. I have not bought a PSU in a few years. I don't really think that my footprint is as bad as hardcore gamers that swap out for new parts every 6 months.

To each there own. Now it's time for a beer!

He'd be better off RMA'ing with newegg since he just bought it. Sapphire charges $15 for RMA. And he'd LIKELY get another 5830 back, maybe a 5850.

This is something that scares me. I thought that maybe my mobo was to old, but ASUS has always been good to me.

If I go out and buy a GTX460 and it does not work. I will really be upset! I have never had any problems with Nvidia from day one. I know DOA happens all the time but it just sucks to have to box it all up, etc, etc.
