They are in some deep doodoo with this one, 2.2 million people that are targeted for identity theft.

PSN is terrible, I have several hardcore gaming friends that have both consoles and they dont PS3's online because they have XBL instead. Its a quality service indeed, its like comparing torrenting to like playing with steam service. Quality, you get what you pay for.

When you're asked to log into PSN after first opening netflix, click the sign in button and wait until you get the message about PSN being down for maintenance. Hit circle (back), and it should continue into Netflix.

The PSN prompt sometimes pops up a second time. Just do the same thing again.
Hmm mine just infinitely loops to the prompt

Not really - that's only one of many motives for hacking.

Why would someone openly admit to doing something illegal? If anything, they will say it within a closed group, and you will never hear about it.

As for "How can they not know? It's their network lol..." -- shows how little you know.

Consider a military operation:
- Operative goes into a building, plants listening devices, infects some server with spyware, leaves. Nobody saw him, nobody knows this has happened. Still a security breach. It's their building. How could they not know? It's simple! He avoided detection! . This is a clandestine operation.
- Operative goes into a building, does all of the above, but also plants a bomb under the head honcho's desk. The next day, the bomb explodes, killing him. This is a covert operation.

The difference between clandestine and covert is that the existence a clandestine operation is not known to anyone else but a covert operation is deniable (i.e. you can't prove who did it). Obviously, for a clandestine operation, you mustn't be detected. In this case, they were detected. In many other cases, hackers aren't detected.

In fact, there are only two cases where a hacker is detected:
- The hacker screwed up.
- He deliberately did noticeable damage ("planted a bomb").

That's because you've only heard of those that wanted recognition... the rest keep themselves well hidden.

That's stupid. That's like saying Intel, NVIDIA and AMD are hardware companies, therefore their software must be inferior. And yet, your computer runs a lot of drivers from these three companies. Did you know: should a driver crash, your system will BSOD. How come you aren't getting BSODs all day if their software is so bad?

As much as I dislike the hate against Sony overall, Sony does at least owe PS3 owners something. There better be something well worth it for users, particularly those Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, and SOCOM 4 folks.

A free Silver account is enough to download content and patches. Still as secure as if you're paying $50/year though

Ah, so I guess I was wrong on the content and patches part. I'm assuming silver can't actually play games online though.

People should get at least a free game if they had serious confidential information stolen, regardless of their free online network.

The only thing you can't do on a silver account is play games online and use certain online sevices (like Sky Player, etc)

I always thought the cost of XBL was to help cover the cost of server's. I've played on both PSN and XBL and found that PSN got laggy more often then XBL and i always assumed that it was the server quality and reliability that you were paying for on XBL.
