Laptop Keyboard problems (surprise surprise lol)

Hey guys, I work on laptops for people and I have a weird case were the keyboard is not functioning correctly and Im just wanting to get a second opinion on if you think the keyboard is bad. I have ran into a problem before that number lock was on and thats why was acting weird but this keyboard has no number lock key, you have to hold function while you press the keys that are marked for the number pad.

So the symptoms are:

X key - Types "/x"
Z key - Types "z" but also turns caps lock on
; key - Types "/;"
? key - Types "/;"
caps lock key - types "z"
Left Control key - only works with certain combinations such as ctrl-a works but not ctrl-c or ctrl-p
Delete key - goes one letter over then deletes that letter

So what do you guys think? I think the keyboard is broken but I'm up for suggestions. *Note: When you are typing, the keys feel very stiff like if something spilled on the keyboard and dried but its not sticky, just very stiff.

Probably something spilled on it. I've seen this on a lappy keyboard that had some Pepsi on it - when pressing some keys others showed up and some didn't work at all. My fix was to remove it, wash it and after drying it up in the sun for a day I put it back; it didn't work, but when pressing some keys, there were yet others that showed up on the screen. I had to buy a new keyboard from China.

Maybe it will work if you clean it well, carbonate drinks are quite conductive and after spilling them on keyboards they tend to short electric pathways.

If you're going to make a business of this it's time to learn how to replace laptop keyboards.

See the All About Scissor Switch wiki for links under repair.

It's like Auto Mechanics. Charge the customer for a new engine, don't waste your time on a rebuild.

Hi, I myself am receiving the EXACT same, and as far as I'm aware, my keyboard is fine hardware wise... Could it be a virus? If not, what?

Help would be REALLY appreciated.

What I ended up doing is replacing the keyboard. That fixed it.

Troubleshooting Guide:
1. Make sure num lock is not on.
2. Use a USB keyboard to ensure that it only occurs on the built-in keyboard
3. Reseat the Keyboard ribbon cable
4. If none of that fixes the problem, order a new keyboard.

Hope I helped!
