2600K/P8P67 PRO temp/volt questions

Thread Starter
I'm trying to get my OC as good as I can for chimp challenge and I have a few questions.

1. I have my CPU voltage set to 1.42 but while running IBT it never goes over 1.408. Does this mean that I can up my multi without upping my volts since it doesn't seem to use all of it?

2. Also when under load my temps on cores 2 and 3 i think, are always different then 1 and 4. Usually 5-6 degrees different. without cleaning and reapplying my TIM(out of the good stuff) can I fix this or is this normal?

3. And lastly is there any other settings I should be changing to achieve a higher/more stable OC in the BIOS? (all things i've changed are below)

SETTINGS
BLCK: 100
MULTI: 49
Internal PPL Overvoltage: Enabled
Memory Freq: 1600
LLC: Ultra High
VRM Fixed Freq: 350
Phase Control: Extreme
Duty Control: Extreme
DRAM Voltage: 1.6v
CPU Voltage: 1.42v

1. is probably due to Vdroop/ so yes until it starts giving you errors..
2. that is normal for any multi-core chip
3. don't know as ive had no exp with SB

when i oc mines to 4.8ghz @ 1.38v thats about the same settings i use exclude the ram settings though . but my llc is set to extreme . as for the temps seems normal to me mines is the same. i got 5ghz @1.43v but couldnt stress it cause temps rised to 85c i could run some cinebench though lol . as for your volts try upping the llc to extreme and lowering your volts to 1.40 or 1.41 or just try setting llc to extreme see wat volts you get . that helps control your vdrop . just need to mess around with the settings . when i first starting ocing this rig i could pass 50 passes of ibt and play many hours of bc2 and rift with no problems . but once i do somthing less cpu intensive web browsing or encoding a vid i get bsod

LLC to extreme may help with higher overclocks say over 5ghz
Your settings so far look ok but be carefull with your dram voltage and make sure it does not go above 1.65v @ 5ghz, this could cause damage to the onboard cpu memory controller.

Do you have speedstep disabled ?
and spread spectrum?

I have both of them enabled

Also wanted to ask, this may be a dumb question, but I heard somewhere that turning off HT when folding actually increases PPD. It doesn't make sense to me since folding does use all 8 threads when it runs but I just thought I'd ask.

I got it running at 102x49=5Ghz, temps are topping out at 75 degrees which I'm ok with.
What is the real difference between running 102x49 vs 100x50 ? Is there any gains from doing it one way or the other?

Do not disable HT for folding. It will kill your ppd.

I bet if you look at your memory speed when running 102x49 is a bit higher. The block in SB changes a lot of the timings in the system at the same time.

It would be best to leave the blck at 100, as increasing it can cause problems as mentioned in sb overclocking, If you can get 100x50 then do this

Thats what I thought, thanks.

Yea it does, it goes up to 1634 or something but it seems stable. I'm going to try 100x50
