major temp changes on stock cooler

Thread Starter
hello all,

today i went and installed different thermal compound on my cpu's stock cooler

my temps went down 20c !! 81c all the way to 61c on full load!

so anyone who uses their stock phenom II cooler with that dodgy thermal pad
... take off the thermal pad it saves lots of dramas

for the application of the thermal paste i used the plastic bag method
and the TIM that i have is a no brander, but still, it made a massive difference all i know is that it is a silicon based TIM that requires no setting time

and also if i were to buy a aftermaket cooler what one should i buy i've been looking at the Hyper 212+ in a push/pull with 1850 gentle typhoons as it is a perfect fit in my case, unlike the coolermaster V8 that i bought and returned today as it is too high by 3mm
i have a antec 100 case as well

Lol, wow! 81c huh? Should get into the Bios and set up a shutdown temp at around 60c so you dont fry something. Nice job on the temp drop though! I freak out when I see 50c in IBT.

iv never understood why amd cpu's temperature threshhold is only 60c ? for what reason , nothing melts at 60c .. or should cause any damage

Well they start getting very unstable at around 60c. I dont think you actually do harm to them until they get much hotter but they wont be worth crap at 60c and above because of BSOD's. Thubans seem not to like anything above 55c.

due to what chuckclc posted above, I'm downright shocked at your CPU hitting 81c...that insane it didnt BSOD or shut down for safty.

well believe it or not but i got my cpu 15runs IBT stable at 3.6 with those 70-80c temps, also i was undervolting as well, may of made a difference.

and not once did my pc shutdown at the 80c mark or even bsod (i think one time but that was due to not enough voltage and my sibling was using the computer at the time)

Ah, yes, they tend to do that My brother always manages to break something - be it BSOD, program not running, or a funny noise in the DVD, I got no clue how he manages..
